Kids: Impressionist Explorers invites young artists to dive into the world of color and light through hands-on projects inspired by famous Impressionist and Post-Impressionist artists. Throughout the week, students will explore the foundations of Impressionism
Day 1: Intro to Impressionism + color swatches & light study •Glass Pebble "Starry Night" Mosaic • Inspired by Vincent van Gogh, this project uses glass pebbles or "gems" to create the swirling, textured energy of a Post-Impressionist landscape.
Day 2: Torn Tissue Paper Collage Landscape • This project uses layers of colored tissue paper to create a vibrant, light-filled landscape, mimicking the way Impressionist artists layered paint to make colors appear to blend from a distance.
Day 3: Faux Stained Glass • "Water Lilies" Inspired by Claude Monet, this project uses paint and glue to mimic the look of leaded glass while capturing the soft colors of his famous lily ponds.
Day 4: Tactile Impressionist Landscape with Modeling Clay • This project uses air-dry, lightweight modeling clay to build a 3D textured landscape, capturing the thick, expressive application of color (impasto) characteristic of artists like Van Gogh and Monet.
