$84/student for 3 weeks - Tuesday evenings

High school through Adult level classes

We’ll work in the 2D realm using paper or canvas, with your choice of acrylic or oil paint.

The course offers a guided exploration of the core ideas, characteristics, and visual language of Cubist painting. It’s designed for new or beginning artists interested in discovering an exciting approach to space and form, while also providing advanced painters with a refreshing challenge and a new outlet for their existing styles. Together, we’ll study key artists, examine foundational techniques, and dive into both Analytical and Synthetic Cubism—comparing early approaches to structure with later developments in collage and color.

Students should bring their own painting materials. Come ready to talk, ask questions, and participate in group discussions. Sharing ideas is a powerful way to problem-solve and shorten the learning curve!

Exploring Expressionism

Exploring Expressionism

$84/student for 3 weeks

High school through Adult level classes

This is a 3 weeks class held on Tuesday eveings.

An introduction to Expressionism, focusing on automatic drawing, purposeful distortion, emotion-driven color, and dynamic paint application. This energetic and intuitive style encourages you to tap into your inner voice and break through traditional barriers of communication within the elements of art. Expressionism is an introspective practice—less about realism and convention, and more about conveying a powerful personal message. It’s an excellent opportunity to experiment, expand your style, and enrich your portfolio.

Because Expressionist work is often fast and spontaneous, paper, canvas, or alternative 2D surfaces all work beautifully. Mixed media is highly encouraged. Artists of all experience levels are welcome to explore.

Students only need to bring their own materials and are encourage to talk, ask questions, and participate in group discussions. Sharing ideas is a fantastic way to problem-solve and shorten the learning curve!

Make your own full loaf (10 bars) of Christmas goat milk & tallow soap at The MAC!

This beginner-friendly, hands-on Soap-Along welcomes both brand-new makers as well as past students who simply want to make a beautiful holiday loaf.

We’ll do a quick walk through of the steps of cold-process, goat-milk & tallow soapmaking—safely working with lye, choosing oils, scenting/coloring, and pouring your festive loaf—before you make your very own loaf of soap, but this session is lighter on theory than our Intro to Soapmaking class. Think: make together, have fun, ask questions & get guidance, use our essential oils and plant-based scents, colors & tools.

Your registration includes a premium, reusable wooden & silicone loaf mold—yours to keep—so you can continue making soap at home!

NOTE: Your soap needs a brief set-up time before traveling, so plan to enjoy the Staunton area and pick up your loaf about an hour later.

Bring a long-sleeve button-down shirt/smock to wear over your clothing.  All other materials and safety gear included; feel free to bring your own safety glasses if you have favorite.

Optional pop-up shop after class with refill kits & products to keep the fun going at home.

NOTE: You'll be sent further instructions that you'll need before class so make sure and give a good email address that you check often when you register!
