Celebrating Eight Years of Art
Saturday, March 15 marked a special day for the Staunton community as the Macoupin Art Collective, (MAC) celebrated their eighth anniversary and a milestone birthday. The celebration was filled with laughter, art, and the vibrant energy of families coming together to create and connect. This event wasn’t just a typical gathering; It unveiled the heart of what the MAC has become: a place where community thrives and shines through creativity.
As visitors walked through the doors of the MAC studio, they were greeted by the cheerful welcoming sounds of children’s laughter and the harmonies of Mr. Nick Davio’s music. His bright tunes filled the air, helping to bring the space to life and setting the perfect atmosphere for the creative flow of every friend.
Little humans and big humans, as the MAC likes to say came together side by side to celebrate in creating. Whether it was designing silk screen T-shirts, crafting stained -glass pieces, or molding a small clay pot on the potter’s wheel. The studio was alive with a sparkle of artistic expression and excitement. The true magic however, was not only in the masterpieces created but in the joy and connection shared amongst everyone.
Patty, a long-time attendee teacher, friend, and volunteer, reflected on what makes MAC so special. “ The Mac is more than just a place to make art. It’s my happy place,” she said. “ Here I can connect with friends, teach stained-glass art, and experience true happiness. This place gives me a sense of belonging, and I believe it brings that same sense of acceptance and joy to everyone who walks through those doors.”
The heart of the MAC lies in its ability to foster a community of acceptance and love through shared creative experiences. People come not only to learn or make art but to find a sense of belonging, to meet others, and to build lasting connections. Marcella Cloud and Brandace Cloud, the dynamic owners of the MAC and their team, have created a space where all are welcome and celebrated for their individuality, creating a warm, inviting atmosphere where art and community go hand in hand.
The eighth anniversary celebration was a reminder of how art can enrich lives, not just through works created, but through the connections it creates. The MAC has become a shining example of how creativity can spark change, build community, and bring people closer. As Staunton continues to grow, the MAC’s impact will no doubt continue to expand, creating a legacy of connection, acceptance, and creative expression for generations to come.
As the event concluded, it was clear to all that the MAC is more than just a studio--it is a sanctuary of expression, where every person is valued , and where the community is invited to create together. The heart of the MAC remains the most precious masterpiece. A Vibrant Celebration of Art, Friends, and Community
