The MAC is Hiring Youth Art Assistants!

The MAC is looking for up to four creative, community-loving young adults (ages 16–22) to hop on board!

This role is made for go-getters who don’t mind a little hustle—outdoor work, lifting, moving, and making things happen. You’ll be part artist, part event crew, and part behind-the-scenes magic.

Location:

Based in Staunton, with travel up to 40 miles (transportation provided/coordinated).

What you’ll do:

  • Helping lead crafts on the ArtBus

  • Painting community murals (outdoor work)

  • Setting up for fun events and classes

  • Helping keep our creative spaces organized.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs.

  • Ability to navigate stairs frequently.

  • Willingness to work outdoors (murals) and travel up to 40 miles from Staunton for ArtBus activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Art Outreach: Assist in leading simple craft activities on the ArtBus and at community events. Represent The MAC by sharing information about our programs with the public.

  • Donation & Inventory Management: Help process over $20,000 in annual donated art materials. This includes logging items, sorting them for the "Thrifter" (our pay-what-you-can store), stocking the "Free Craft Cabinet," and assembling craft kits for free pantries and retail sale.

  • Mural & Public Art: Assist with community mural projects. This involves working outdoors in various weather conditions and maintaining a high standard of focus and safety.

  • Facility & Logistics: Help with the organization of the basement storage (matching containers/lids), weekly laundry for art rags, general cleaning of the studio and the setup/breakdown of classes and special events.

  • Community Marketing: Help distribute flyers and promotional materials throughout the Staunton area.
